September in Pinellas County marks a subtle but important shift.

The peak of summer heat begins to ease, rainy season starts to wind down, and many families settle into new routines. It is also one of the best months to give your home a thorough deep clean before fall activities and holiday guests arrive. After years of cleaning homes across Largo, Seminole, Clearwater Beach, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and the greater Tampa Bay area, I’ve developed a practical September deep-cleaning checklist tailored to Florida conditions.

Start with the air and HVAC system. Replace or clean your filters. Wipe down supply and return vents. If your system has been running hard all summer, consider scheduling a professional duct inspection. Clean ceiling fans thoroughly—blades collect sticky dust in our humidity. Open windows on lower-humidity days to air the house while you work.

Next, tackle kitchens. Empty and wipe cabinets, paying attention to the tops and corners where grease and dust combine. Clean inside the refrigerator, freezer, oven, and microwave. Pull out the stove and refrigerator if possible and clean underneath and behind them. Degrease the range hood and filters. Scrub the sink, faucet, and garbage disposal. Mop the floor last, including edges and under appliances.

Bathrooms need special attention after months of high humidity. Scrub showers, tubs, and tile with a mold-inhibiting cleaner. Clean grout lines. Descale showerheads and faucets. Wipe down mirrors, light fixtures, and exhaust fans. Clean toilets inside and out, including the base and behind them. Wash or replace shower curtains and liners. Don’t forget the floor and baseboards.

Living areas and bedrooms come next. Dust all surfaces from top to bottom—light fixtures, shelves, picture frames, baseboards, and window sills. Vacuum upholstered furniture and under cushions. Wash or dry-clean curtains and bedding. Flip and vacuum mattresses. Clean under beds and behind dressers. Wipe down doors, door frames, and switch plates.

Floors deserve a full treatment. Vacuum or sweep thoroughly, then mop hard surfaces with a suitable cleaner. For carpeted areas, a deep vacuum or professional cleaning helps remove summer dirt and pollen. Pay extra attention to high-traffic zones near entryways, where wet-season grit accumulates.

Don’t overlook less obvious spots. Clean window tracks and screens. Wipe down baseboards throughout the house. Dust and vacuum closets. Clean laundry room surfaces, the washer and dryer exteriors, and the area behind them if accessible. Check and clean any visible pipes or utility areas for dust and moisture residue.

Outdoor living spaces matter in Florida. Sweep and wash lanais, patios, and screened porches. Clean outdoor furniture and cushions. Clear debris from around the foundation and check gutters if they are accessible.

Work methodically room by room, finishing one area before moving to the next. Keep cleaning products and tools organized so the process stays efficient. Many homeowners in St. Petersburg and Clearwater find it helpful to spread the cleaning checklist over a weekend or two rather than trying to finish everything in one day.

A professional deep cleaning in September can make the process much easier. Our teams know the typical summer buildup in local homes and focus on the areas humidity and storms affect most. Once the deep clean is complete, a lighter regular schedule keeps the house fresher through the rest of the year.

September is an ideal window for this reset. The weather is still warm enough for good ventilation, yet the heaviest rains are usually behind us. Completing this checklist leaves your home in Largo, Seminole, Clearwater Beach, or anywhere in Pinellas County feeling lighter, cleaner, and ready for the months ahead. If you would like help working through it, we are ready to assist.

Happy Cleaning!  🪣🧽🩷
